Kindness in Action
When you hear the word kindness, what comes to your mind? Maybe it's saying something nice or giving someone a compliment. Those things matter, but biblical kindness goes beyond words. Kindness is something people can see through your actions.
Think about your ordinary day. You may meet someone who looks fine on the outside but is carrying a heavy burden inside. It could be a coworker who is overwhelmed, a friend who is silently struggling, a family member who feels unnoticed, or even the cashier at the grocery store who has had a difficult day. The truth is, you never really know what someone is going through.
That's why every day is an opportunity to show the love of Jesus in practical ways.
Kindness doesn't always require something big or expensive. Sometimes it's choosing to listen instead of rushing the conversation. It's sending a message that says, "I was thinking about you today. How are you doing?" It's offering to pray for someone before they even ask. It's helping carry someone's groceries, making coffee for a coworker, encouraging a classmate, or simply smiling at someone who seems discouraged.
These small acts may not seem important to you, but they can mean everything to someone else.
Jesus didn't just tell people He loved them—He showed it. He noticed those who were ignored. He made time for those people who were avoided. He cared for the hurting, welcomed the lonely, and served people without expecting anything in return. As His followers, we are called to do the same.
One of the biggest enemies of kindness is being too busy. Sometimes we're so focused on our own schedule that we miss the people God places right in front of us. Ask God to slow your heart enough to notice someone who needs encouragement today.
Remember, kindness is not about getting recognition. You may never hear a "thank you." No one may notice what you did. But God sees every act of love done in His name.
Never underestimate what God can do through one simple act of kindness. Your encouragement may restore someone's hope. Your generosity may answer someone's prayer. Your time may remind someone that they are seen, valued, and loved by God.
Three Ways to Choose Kindness Today
1. Look for someone you can help.
Ask God to open your eyes to someone who needs encouragement or practical help today.
2. Serve without expecting recognition.
Do something kind simply because you want to reflect the love of Jesus—not because you want praise from others.
3. Make time for people.
Sometimes the greatest gift you can give is your attention. Put your phone down, listen well, and let people know they matter.
Reflection
Who has God placed in your life today? Ask Him to show you one simple act of kindness you can do. It may seem small to you, but God can use your kindness to remind someone that they are deeply loved and never forgotten.
